Internship, apprenticeship offered at Flint Hill Farm Educational Center

COME BE A BUILDER OF HEALTH AND WHOLENESS!

Flint Hill Farm Ed is a non profit Educational Center located on Flint Hill Farm, a 28 acre preserved multifaceted working farm in Lehigh County, Upper Saucon Township, PA.  We run a Certified Raw Milk Goat Dairy that sells its products year round at two markets. Our products were sold at five markets from March through November last year. We plan to attend eight markets weekly this year through our interns and volunteers personel. We also run a year round educational program for the local school districts and vocational schools, summer horse camp and farm camp during the months of July and August, and a year round riding lesson and horse driving program.  We teach spinning and weaving using the fleece from our Romney sheep and sell our handspun products out of our Farm Store and on-line sales. This year we are also expanding our production of our Pastured Poultry.

We are members of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Southeast Region Representatives for PA Women in Agriculture, Lehigh Valley Horse Council and the Farm Bureau. At present we are coordinating with the NDRC and our local Forester to create a Woods and Pasture walk through our back pastures and 6 acres of woodland.  The Penn State Extension Center has assisted us in planning for a number of educational community programs to run through this calendar year.

I am offering free room and board in my farm house and a small stipend in exchange for AM or PM feeding during the week, help with milking and some weekend AM or PM barn chores.  The intern would be exposed to learning the workings of the goat dairy and cheese making, natural horse training horses and ponies to pull carts, handling foals from our Percheron team.  We have a small mixed herb and vegetable garden with 2 hoop houses for our cheeses and educational program that would be associated with daily plans.  Some AM hours could be required to assist with a week of inner city students exploring gardening.  Outline is available on request.  Please visit our website.  If this is where you can see yourself for 3 to 6 months, we would be happy to have you come for a tour.Three references required.Flint Hill Farm Internship Program Documents:
